PB&J Smoothie

So I got sucked in to trying Daily Harvest, a company that sends you pre-portioned frozen smoothie kits. They are so good and so convenient, but WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for my wee little budget right now. So I had to get creative. What flavors did I love of theirs? What did I like most about their convenient smoothies? I had to come up with something to help feed that craving without breaking the bank. So here we are… my first go at a DH-like smoothie. After a few trial and errors, WE HAVE A WINNER... PB&J! Who wouldn’t want that?!

Makes 1 large smoothie.

Total time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 Frozen Banana (Cut into slices before freezing. Frozen in a single layer on a baking sheet before adding to smoothie bags.)

  • 6-8 Frozen Strawberries (I buy pre-frozen, but you can freeze your own.)

  • A small handful of frozen raspberries (I buy pre-frozen, but you can freeze your own.)

  • 2 tbsp of Almond Butter (I even freeze this to make my mornings easier)

  • 3/4 c Almond Milk

  • 5-6 Ice Cubes (Depending on how thick you want your smoothie)

Instructions:

I like to prep my smoothies ahead of time by freezing the ingredients in bags for the same convenience as Daily Harvest. Everything but the almond milk and the ice cubes. Zip lock bags like these work! Then, I just reuse them each week for more smoothie ingredients.

In the morning I take one smoothie bag out of the freezer, dump the ingredients into a blender, add some of my almond milk, and blend. I will add more almond milk and ice to get the consistency I am craving that morning. Top with a drizzle of almond butter!

Enjoy the tasty smoothie and the extra money in your pocket!
